Dr. Beliveau taught in Radio-TV-Film at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, including courses in Media writing, criticism, video production, film/video studies, popular culture, music & cultural studies, documentary theory production & history, and rhetorical criticism. Previously, he taught broadcast journalism, popular culture, and rhetoric while doing graduate work at the University of Iowa. He ran an FM radio and cable television program while teaching at a high school on the Southwest side of Chicago, and worked in L.A. in independent film and television production. He served as editor of the Journal of Communication Inquiry, chair of the Cultural and Critical Studies division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. In 2002 he taught a study abroad program that went to Edinburgh, Scotland. Research areas include Critical media pedagogy; media criticism; orality & literacy; critical theory, and rhetorical theory. He is working on a study of critical communication and education theory focusing on Paulo Freire.
