Advertising Overview

Advertising professionals create persuasive messages that are intended to inform consumers about products and services and persuade them to purchase the products. Outlets for advertising messages include print magazines and newspapers, radio and television, and billboards. The Internet and other new media are creating new and exciting challenges.


The Advertising program at the Gaylord College will equip you with necessary skills in copywriting, account planning, advertising research, media planning/buying and the basics of creative design. You will also be introduced to mass communication law and theory and will be required to take several business courses including economics and marketing.

Careers

Advertising is a dynamic and exciting field with multiple career paths. A career in Advertising can focus on copywriting, creative design, account planning, media planning/buying or sales. Advertising professionals work for agencies across the country or sometimes may work in-house for a large company or corporation.


In your senior year, you will participate in a capstone course of Advertising Campaigns. A professional internship is also highly recommended to prepare you for a career in Advertising.
