Broadcasting & Electronic Media
Course Requirements


In addition to the University-Wide General Education requirements, Broadcasting & Electronic Media majors must complete a minimum of 43 (maximum of 40) hours in journalism and mass communication.

Specific requirements include:

JMC 1013     Intro. to Mass Communication

JMC 2033     Writing for Mass Media*

JMC 2623     Electronic Media Writing

JMC 2644     Intro. to Video Production

JMC 2683     Survey of Electronic Media

JMC 3613     Electronic Field Production

JMC 4653     Issues & Ethics in Electronic
                        Media (Capstone Course)

JMC 4813     Mass Communication Law



*The  LST/AIT  must be passed in order to enroll in JMC 2033. If transferring 2033 in from another institution the LST/AIT must be passed to complete Gaylord College admission.


*Other requirements:

Students choosing the Broadcasting & Electronic Media emphasis must take:

  • nine to 10 hours of Broadcasting & Electronic Media electives
  • nine hours of JMC electives including three credit hours of JMC 3011 – Mass Media Practicum.
