Nine Gaylord students and two professors will receive honors from the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) in the BEA Festival of Media Arts. Gaylord College tied with one other school for the most awards received in the 2008 video program and will receive awards in four of the six video categories, as well as one award in the interactive multimedia category at the joint BEA/NAB Convention in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 17.

A video produced for the 2007 JayMac distinguished alumni banquet will receive top recognition in the instructional video category. The Distinguished Alumni Video Profile of Spencer Tillman produced by Tyler Petersen and Jonathan Stapleton in collaboration with Professor Scott Hodgson will receive first place in the student division for best instructional video. Ed Jones and Meghan Schell will receive second place for their video, “Getting Involved.”

Scott Bacon, Caleb McNear, Tyler Peterson and Jonathon Stapleton tied with another team for second place in the promotional category for their video “Radical,” a promotional spot for TV4OU, the campus television station.

In the live/studio/multi-camera category, David Burkhart will receive the second place award for “The Set – Sherree Chamberlain.” In the music video category, Matt Jaques and Caleb McNear will receive the second place award for “Laundry Mat.”

In the interactive multimedia category, Michelle Lucchesi will receive the third place honor for her multimedia design, “On the set of: A Stroke of Genius.”

In addition to the student awards, two professors will also be recognized. Jason Balas will receive an Award of Excellence in the faculty mixed format category in the video competition at BEA.  The documentary project is titled: "In the Middle: Nazi Prison Camps in Oklahoma" and was created for the History Channel. Scott Hodgson will receive Best of Category in the educational/instructional video category for the Spencer Tillman video produced with Petersen and Stapleton.

Gaylord College faculty members can also be found behind the scenes of the BEA Festival. Ken Fischer and Ralph Beliveau served as category coordinators for the news division and student documentary divisions respectively. Dean Joe Foote and Scott Hodgson also served on the Festival committee.

The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) is the professional association for professors, industry professionals and graduate students who are interested in teaching and research related to electronic media and multimedia enterprises. More than 1,300 professors, students and media professionals are members and approximately 250 colleges and university departments and schools are institutional members.

The BEA Festival of Media Arts is the largest student competition in electronic media in the country with entries coming from universities nationwide. The awards will be presented in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 17th at the joint National Association of Broadcasters and Broadcast Education Association conference. The BEA Festival provides a national refereed exhibition of faculty creative activities and is a national showcase for students’ work.
