JMC Majors Collect Awards


Thirteen Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication students received awards at the University of Oklahoma Campus Awards Program, March 28. Five students were recognized by Gaylord College as being the best in their majors.


PE-ET

Three Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication students have been accepted into PE-ET (Top 10 Senior Honor Society) for 2008-2009. PE-ET (“pay-et”) is the honor society for outstanding seniors at the University of Oklahoma. The prestigious honor is bestowed only upon the university’s finest students and is a time-honored tradition since 1910.


The Gaylord College congratulates Robert O. Gonzales (ADV, '08) for his service in the 2007-2008 society. Koby Harrington (PR, '09), Amanda N. Holloway (ADV, '08) and Mark Nehrenz (Jour, '08) have been named to the 2008-2009 PE-ET Honor Society. Students named to PE-ET exhibit the highest ability in scholarship, leadership and original work among the men and women at the University of Oklahoma. Journalism majors are filling three of 10 spots in PE-ET.


President’s and Regents’ Award for Outstanding Students.

The President’s and Regents’ Awards recognize excellence in the area of scholarship, character, leadership and service to the university community. This award is the highest award bestowed to freshman, sophomores and juniors by the university community.

Big Man and Big Woman on Campus

Four Journalism majors have been recognized as Big Man and Big Woman on Campus.

Journalism majors Koby Harrington (PR, '09), Mark Nehrenz (Jour, '08), Amanda N. Holloway (ADV, '08) and Emily A. Westbrooks (PR, '08) were chosen as Big Man and Big Woman on Campus based on their outstanding achievements in one or more areas of involvement: leadership, service, honors and academics


Big Man and Big Woman on Campus awards are chosen annually in recognition of those students deemed outstanding by the selection committee comprised of faculty, staff and students.


Letzeiser Honor List and Medalists

Two Journalism students have been selected for the Letzeiser Honor List, Emily A. Westbrooks (PR, '08) and Robert O. Gonzales (ADV, '08). The Letzeiser Awards are presented to up 13 women and 13 men who display good citizenship and achievement.


Robert Gonzales was selected as a bronze medalist, an honor bestowed upon the most outstanding students.

PACE Awards

Two Pre-Journalism Freshman, Karmen Ponder-Moore and Reneé Selanders, have been recognized for the PACE Award. They are part of the top one percent of the freshman class recognized for participation, academic achievement, community service and excellence.
