Twenty-two Gaylord College students will receive a total of 25 awards in the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) awards on March 28th, accounting for 30 percent of all the awards given in the 2007 program. The students will receive awards in 14 categories.
Gaylord students swept all awards in two categories: documentary/series and magazine/talk format. In the documentary/series category, Aaron Canard will receive first place followed by Mark Nehrenz and Kristen Keith in second place and Walker Robbins in third place.
For magazine/talk format Will Prescott will receive first place for best magazine/talk format, Brian Hardzinski and Jerry Wofford will receive second and third place respectively.
Other students to win first place in their categories are: Amanda Guerra and the crew of OU Nightly for best TV newscast (see story about OU Nightly); Mark Alexin and Carly Roenbrook for best direction; Jared Richardson for best sports story; John Cope and Alex Shumate for best video essay; and, Matt Jaques and Caleb McNear for best music video.
Other students receiving either second or third-place awards are Alex Shumate, Brian Hardzinski, Jennifer Rickard, Alyssa Loyd, Deb Wallerand, David Burkhart, Keith Cavey, Tyler Peterson, Jonathon Stapleton, and Michael Kimball.
The Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) conducts statewide competitions in 28 categories spanning television, radio and multi-media categories. Sixteen colleges and universities are OBEA members. All OU Gaylord College winners are listed below.
