“We have a growing number of volunteer students giving a growing number of hours to delivering true local news to the Norman community and it’s thrilling to see them so rewarded,” says McMahon Centennial Professor Dana Rosengard, Ph.D., faculty advisor for the student newscast both years it has taken the first place award.
OU Nightly’s winning entry was produced by Amanda Guerra who can now be seen as a general assignment reporter on KOCO-TV/Eyewitness News 5 in Oklahoma City. Brianne Ballard and Julie Musgrave anchored the winning the newscast that featured a lead report by Ashley White and the weekly Leaders Live segment hosted by Brittney Tyler. White’s report on the historic troop deployment ceremony held at the Lloyd Noble Center on the OU campus was the lead story on the newscast just 90-minutes after the ceremony began.
“Judges, all professional journalists in the state, were impressed by the true news nature of the stories presented and by the all-local content provided to the Norman audience,” Rosengard reports.
