Our mission is to educate producers and consumers of existing and emerging forms of public communication, and to instill in them the value of freedom of expression, intellectual and cultural diversity, critical thinking, creativity, ethics, professional skills, and social responsibility.
Student Opportunities/Organizations
The Gaylord College is home to a variety of student groups that cover all aspects of our majors and professions and each group adds to the college, making us a richer and more diverse place to prepare for a career.
In addition, student organizations provide each JMC student an opportunity develop leadership skills and get involved in important projects on campus and participate in many other activities, both locally and nationally. During the past year, students involved with groups in the Gaylord College took trips to various regional and national locations, helped charitable causes and helped attract a record number of alumni back to campus.
Travel and Study Abroad
Gaylord students can receive a one of a kind experience in one of several study abroad programs offered. Students can choose from more than 158 universities with which OU has study abroad exchange agreements or one of the multiple programs tailored specifically for Gaylord students. Programs are open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
Competitions
In addition to the various groups or organizations, students in all majors have the opportunity to compete in regional and national student competitions and student categories of major professional programs. Gaylord College students have received national recognition from the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC), the PRSSA Bateman Competition, national Hearst Journalism Awards Competition and the Broadcast Education Association among others.
