The University of Oklahoma has received $54,800 in departmental grants from Exxon Mobil Corporation in support of academic areas in the Michael F. Price College of Business, Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy and the College of Engineering, as well as support for OU’s CareerServices.
The ExxonMobil grants allow selectedacademic departments to allocate funds for various educational purposes, including scholarships, field trips, visiting speakers, equipment purchases, student and faculty travel to academic-related activities, and othereducational projects. The grants areawarded to schools that offer degrees in subjects from which ExxonMobilrecruits employees.
“Supporting higher education has always been a strong priority for ExxonMobil,” said Kirsteen Butler, global recruiting manager for ExxonMobil. “This program enables us to provide funding for colleges and universities who play a pivotal role in preparing students to enter the workforce. ExxonMobil is proud to provide support for the University of Oklahoma, which will help to enhance departments whose academic focus aligns with the workforce needs of ExxonMobil.”
The amount of the grant is based on several factors, including the number of employees graduated from the specific institution.
ExxonMobil has contributed $2 million in departmental grants this year to 87 colleges and universities throughout the country to support various academic programs. The Departmental Grants Program represents only a portion of ExxonMobil’s overall support of education. In 2008, together with its employees and retirees, ExxonMobil Foundation, Exxon Mobil Corporation, and its divisions and affiliates provided more than $89 million in contributions to educational initiatives worldwide.
