President Boren announces the Campaign for Scholarships in 2005.The private scholarship funding available to deserving OU students on all three campuses must be greatly increased. Raising at least $200 million will come much closer to meeting the current need and giving OU the scholarship funding projected into the future.

A much more robust scholarship endowment, together with important and valued annual support for scholarships, will touch the lives of thousands of OU students each year.
As an example, if the University’s scholarship endowment were to increase by $50 million, we could help an additional 2,500 students each year. OU will be better positioned to recruit top undergraduate students and, as important, outstanding graduate students who contribute so significantly to OU’s teaching and research mission.
Scholarship funding is also critical to recruiting and supporting top students in medical and other health-related fields and law students. One important benefit is keeping Oklahoma’s best students from leaving the state.
