
What is your fondest memory of the University of Oklahoma and the Henderson Scholars Program? “My fondest memories of the Henderson Scholars Program were the holiday dinners that the scholars put together. Working together to raise money, decorate, cook, and buy and wrap gifts for single-parent families in need, certainly expressed the family-like spirit, compassion, and sincerity of the group.”
How has this program influenced or had an impact on your life? In what ways did the Henderson Scholars Program contribute to your college success and your success after graduation? “While participating in the tutoring programs at the University of Oklahoma, I realized my desire and potential to become an educator. The Henderson Scholars Program provided many opportunities to be an educational leader in schools within the Norman community. My experiences as a Henderson Scholar were all extremely positive and encouraged me to continue pursuing excellence in educational endeavors. The friendships and connections I made with other scholars have been blessings. I still remain in contact with many alumni Henderson Scholars. It is comforting to be able to share our experiences as we move through new phases in life, reflecting on our memories of being students at the University of Oklahoma.”
Why do you feel this program is important to the University and its students? “The Henderson Scholars Program is composed of a harmonious network of students from various walks of life and experiences. These scholars embody a group of achievers that are proud of their individuality. They not only strive for excellence for themselves, but they are also active in positively affecting the world in which they live. This program encourages the University and its students to celebrate and participate in cultural and diversity appreciation.”
What is your current occupation (or academic pursuit, if currently seeking an advanced degree)? “I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Studies at the University of Oklahoma. I will be focusing my interests on arts education and arts integration as well as gender and Native American studies.”
