Rachel Dorsett’s passion for improving the lives of others shapes her outlook on life and her future goals. That’s why she hopes to make a career of helping empower those in less fortunate life situations.
A junior majoring in social work, Rachel is the recipient of the Alvin Terrell Dixon Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship allows her to concentrate more fully on her academics and practicum, which, she said, will ultimately lead her to become a more effective social worker. And by not having accrued student loan debt, Rachel said she has more freedom to enter the career of her dreams.
“It is my dream to improve the lives of children and families in Oklahoma,” she said. “I am so blessed to have grown up in a wonderful loving and nurturing family. Because I have the opportunity to attend college, unlike so many, I feel it is my responsibility to use this education to help others in the community. My scholarship is assisting me in fulfilling my dream.”
Rachel is on target to graduate in May 2009.
