Welcome to the University of Oklahoma’s Gay Lesbian Bisexual, Transgendered and Friends (GLBTF) webpage!
GLBTF (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Friends) is a student organization at the University of Oklahoma that caters to the GLBT students on campus and in the community. We are a social organization that strives to meet the needs of our students in various ways, including educational speakers, entertainment, social outings, and support.
One of our goals is to make your life at OU as pleasant as possible, and hopefully as stress-free as possible.
Because we recognize the unique stresses GLBT people experience in daily life and especially in college, we have tried to revolve our programming around issues that affect us specifically. If you ever feel your particular needs aren't being met, grab an officer or email one or all of us and let us know. We'll do what we can to try and accommodate you.
Our members are a diverse group of people. Some of us are politically active, some more socially active, some are out and some are closeted. The GLBTF meetings are an outlet for them to express themselves. The GLBTF is very confidential and open with our diversity policies. We work very hard to make the GLBTF and the OU campus a safe and accepting environment for all students.
There are many opportunities to get involved with the GLBTF, to meet new people, and have fun in the process. Following is a short list of ways to get involved. Ask any of the officers for more information.
* PR Committee - We would like those with legible handwriting to help chalk the campus sidewalks with information for GLBTF meetings, including time and places.
* Come to meetings, social events, and activism events!
* Volunteer office hours in the GLBTF office in the Union. You can do as few or as many hours as you'd like. Duties include answering the phone and fielding questions from anyone who happens to stop by. It's a quiet place to study or to check your email, read magazines, take a nap, etc.
* Speak in class panels.
* Run for GLBTF office!
If you are looking to become more politically active, looking to meet new people, looking for a break from your studies, or you are just looking for some place to go to alleviate the boredom of Thursday nights, we hope you find the GLBTF a welcoming, warm, safe and fun place to express yourself and become more comfortable on campus. If there is anything the officers can do to make your experience at OU with GLBTF better, don't hesitate to ask.
Sincerely,
Your GLBTF Officers
