Class of 2012
Hometown: Tulsa, OK
Major: Political Science

I was once asked on an application what I would include in a college survival pack. Here is my answer:
(incoming freshmen, pay attention!)
The normal college survival pack may include a cell phone, laptop, laundry detergent, pictures from high school, every type of medicine your mom can think of, quarters, ramen noodles, and rain boots; but, a college survival pack cannot be merely a list of things you might need. It should be an empty box that says, “It is now your time to shine”. You cannot pack the things that truly matter in a box. Throughout my freshman year, I have made my own survival pack.

I thought that life couldn’t get better, but now U2 is coming to OU next fall…..which means that all of you incoming freshmen can come to the concert (if you can get tickets)! The good thing about coming to OU is the great bands and speakers that choose to come to OU to play or speak.
My biggest fear when I came to college was that I was not going to be as successful in college as I was in high school. It is now April and I feel like my college experience will be equal to or better than my high school experience. How to get involved at OU?
Well, officially Winter Welcome Week was last week (this is a week that OU puts on to welcome all the students back from break). But in my mind I think that OU was a week off, Winter Welcome Week should be this week seeing as we have had three snow days so far! Monday on my way back from practice I fell once, then on my way to class I fell again and this time it was a nice hard fall.

It’s a new year: we have a new cafeteria, new classes, and a new U.S. president. Winter Break is amazing, although for some it is hard adjusting to having parents again. While I have been at college I have gotten accustomed to not having a curfew and going or doing anything at any time. Yet, that all changed when I got back home. My parents were back to the same old routine of asking “Where are you going and what time are you coming back?” This is a change at first, but you get back in the swing of things soon.

I don’t think that I could ask for a better freshman year. Classes are good, the friends I have made are great, and the football is AMAZING! Here is the football low down: 702 points scored this season alone, 60+ points scored in the five games, 6 Big 12 conference titles, and 84 passing touchdowns later the OU Sooner are going to Miami. Highlight of it all is that I go here!

-We got a free golf cart ride to and from the polling place on campus
-We also were excused from any class if we were voting
-Young voter turnout was the best it has ever been
-McCain won the state of Oklahoma
-It would be interesting to find out who the OU campus voted to be president

My first college regatta was this weekend! For those of you who don’t row, a regatta is a race for rowing! Let me start off by describing my Thursday night! Most college kids don’t go to bed until one or so on Thursday night. On most Thursdays the campus is usually rather busy with college kids going to parties or just staying up late because it is almost the weekend! Well, for me I am rather boring on Thursdays because on Friday morning I have to be up for practice, so I am up and awake at five in the morning; needless to say I don’t go out! Food, food, food! The food here in Norman is rather upscale! I am a huge fan of our plethora of food choices. Some of my favorite places are BJ’s, Charleston’s, Texadelphia, Ted’s, The Mont, Waffle House, IHOP, Louies, Café Plaid, Tea Café, and so much more! Okay, now I will go over these selections…. BJ’s has the best pizookie, which is a pizza cookie. Charleston’s has a great selection of any type of food; they also have great queso and chips!Continue reading October 22...
If you have ever been to OU, you would know that football is our life! Well I am writing this blog after a grave loss against Texas… now while I am not trying to make excuses, the refs were not the best I have seen! But anyway, life must move on! The OU/TX experience is one of the most memorable experiences that I think I will have. Your teachers give you the Friday of OU/TX off and you go down to Dallas with a car full of people! You stay in a room with eleven others girls/guys and you stay up all night, sleep in, and repeat! Continue reading October 15...
First of all, let me get you prepared to make a decision that I don’t think any high school student should make: Choosing a college…but what is worse than that is choosing a major. Throughout the year I am hoping to give you some insight into what OU is really about! But, before I go into great detail about why I think that it is completely necessary to go to OU let me introduce myself and my experiences thus far! Continue reading September 8...
