Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma

Criteria: Applicant must possess a Tribal Citizenship card showing citizenship in the Cherokee Nation. Applicant must be attending or plan to attend a regionally accredited post-secondary institution. Applicant must apply for financial aid (Pell/FAFSA) at the selected institution, immediately after January 1.

Cherokee Nation PELL Scholarship (amount varies) – All Cherokee Nation tribal citizens, regardless of permanent residence, who qualify for Pell grant funding, are eligible for Bureau of Indian Affairs scholarship funding.

Cherokee Nation Pell Supplementation Scholarship (amount varies) - Tribal citizens who are eligible to receive the Cherokee Nation Pell Scholarship and live within the Cherokee Nation service area.

Cherokee Nation Scholarship ($1000 per semester) - Open to tribal citizens who are permanent residents of the 14-county Cherokee Nation Service Area and contiguous, not qualify for Pell grant funding. Funding is not available to students living outside these areas.

Criteria: Applicant must possess a Tribal Citizenship card showing citizenship in the Chickasaw Nation. Applicant (in-coming freshmen) must provide a completed high school transcript that reflects his/her final GPA or a copy of GED certificate. Applicant must also provide a copy of full-time or part-time proof of enrollment for the semester in which he/she is seeking assistance.

Higher Education Grant (amount varies) – Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher, students may be full-time or part-time. Ex. Undergraduate student, full-time, attending a Research Institution (The University of Oklahoma) will receive $2,400 per semester.

General Scholarship (amount varies according to GPA, Year in School and full-time or part-time status) – Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher for all students, must be in good standing and must be full-time or part-time.

Governor’s, LT. Governor’s and Legislators’ Scholarships (amount varies according to GPA) – High school seniors only and maintain a GPA of 3.85 or higher.

CN Millennium Scholarship ($1000) – High school seniors only and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

***Choctaw students have 3 avenues for scholarship opportunities including Choctaw Nation Department of Higher Education, Student Advisement Program and Career Development***

Higher Education Grant (amount varies according to number of hours, financial need and classification of previous semester) – Students receiving a Grant are expected to earn a minimum of 12 hours per semester, 6 hours for part-time, with a semester GPA of no less than 2.0.

Higher Education Scholarship (amount will be based upon the student’s accumulative GPA) – Students receiving a Scholarship are expected to earn a minimum of 12 hours per semester, 6 hours for part-time, with an accumulative GPA of no less than 2.5.

Scholarship Advisement Program (scholarships are very competitive and amounts vary) – SAP applications can be found online and there are no current deadlines.

Higher Education Scholarship

Criteria: Applicant must possess a Tribal citizenship card showing citizenship in the Creek Nation. Applicant must submit a FAFSA and must have financial need determined by the institution’s financial aid office. Applicant must be admitted to an accredited institution of higher education.

Higher Education Scholarship (amount varies) – Students receiving scholarship are required to earn a minimum of 15 hours of credit per semester with a GPA no lower than 2.0.

Tribal Funds Grant (total amount of awards may not exceed $2000 per academic year for full-time, and $1000 per academic year for part-time) – Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 to remain eligible for this grant.

Tribal Incentive Grant (total amount of awards may not exceed $1400 per academic year for full-time, and $700 per academic year for part-time) – Only students with at least a GPA of 3.0 of college work may apply for this program.
