Becky Heeney started her career at the University of Oklahoma in 1988 in the Office of High School and College Relations – now known as Prospective Student Services. In 1989, she was recruited to coordinate the special projects and promotions for the University’s Centennial Celebration. As the Centennial concluded, Becky assumed responsibility for coordinating the University’s Commencement exercises and helped define and create the Office of Special Events in the Division of Public Affairs, which she directed until 1996.
In this position, Becky also coordinated the Academic Convocations that featured such world leaders as Lady Margaret Thatcher, the Most Reverend Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Former President of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev.
Following a two-year appointment as Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs in 2001 to 2003, Becky stepped down to pursue her graduate studies. In the fall of 2004, Becky assisted in laying the groundwork for the creation of OU’s Graduation Office. The Graduation Office was opened in January 2005 to assist students in meeting their graduation goals and Becky assumed the responsibility of directing the office.
Becky completed her Master's of Education with an emphasis in Adult and Higher Education in December 2006. In addition to directing the Graduation Office, Becky is a discussion leader for Strategies for Success.
Becky and her husband, Neil, have been married for 21 years and are the proud parents of two sons - Christian, 14 years old, and Braden, 10 years old.
