RE: Honors Research Assistant Program
Web page address: http://honors.ou.edu/hrap
The Honors Research Assistant Program provides an opportunity for students to work with professors as research assistants on specific projects. The purpose of the program is to involve students in a faculty research project, and teach them how to develop research into a completed project. Those who do not have a research grant for a particular project are eligible to participate.
THERE ARE 15 POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR FALL 2007.
ONCE THEY ARE FILLED, THE HRAP PAGE WILL BE CLOSED.
Please note the guidelines:
1. Professors may hire only one student.
2. Professors who received HRAP grants for the Spring 2007 semester are not eligible for the Fall 2007 semester.
3. The period for an assistantship is 10 weeks and is not renewable.
4. Assistantships will begin no sooner than September 4, 2007.
5. The final week assistantships may begin is the week of October 1, 2007.
6. The final ending point for a 10-week period is the week of December 3-7, 2007.
7. Assistantships are not available during the summer.
8. Students assistants are expected to work 10 hours a week for ten weeks; at $6.00 an hour, the total for the period is $600.00.
9. Honors College students with at least 15 hours of college credit and at least a 3.40 GPA are eligible to apply.
To post a position and hire a student, please follow these new instructions:
- Access the web page at http://honors.ou.edu/hrap. Fill out the form, providing information about the project, how the student will be involved, and what the student will do.
- Be sure to check the page for applicants. You are responsible for contacting the students, both the one you hire and those you do not.
- Once you have hired an assistant, download the employment form in either Adobe Acrobat PDF format or Microsoft Word format. After you have filled it out, complete with both the student's and your signatures, send the form to Kathy Gross, Financial Administrator, Honors House, 1300 Asp. Until Kathy Gross receives and signs the form, the student is not hired. Also, notify Kathy when the student has completed the 10 weeks; the student will not be paid until she receives this notification. The "Current Projects" page will list who is working for whom, and the beginning and ending dates of the assistantship. If your project is listed there, then the employment is official.
- Delete your own entry. Click on "Show All Projects" on the main and second pages, and then click on "delete, " which appears in the column on the right.
- Contact Kathy Gross when the assistant has completed the research so that the check can be released to the student.
