Airfare: Each student must make his/her own travel arrangements. The price for air travel for the 2008 program ranged from $850 to $1100, depending on several factors, such as when the ticket was booked, where the flight originated and student discounts with an International Student Identity Card (see www.statravel.com for information). Trains and buses travel regularly from London airports to Oxford.
Tuition: The tuition depends on the current rate for a 3-hour, 3000-level course plus fees. Currently, resident tuition and fees are $208.80 per credit hour; non-resident tuition and fees are $512.60 per credit hour. Please remember that the rates for tuition and fees are subject to change. See http://www.ou.edu/bursar/fees.htm for current rates.
Room and board: All rooms are private at Brasenose. The difference between a standard and en-suite room is a shared bathroom for the standard and a private bath for the en-suite.
The total cost for a standard room (in British pounds) is £1658, for an en-suite room (in British pounds), £1984. The room and board fee (in U.S. dollars) will be applied to the student’s bursar’s bill. Fees for Brasenose room and board are not refundable.
Converting the room and board fee into dollars depends on the exchange rate, which varies daily. At the time of this publication’s printing (October 2007) the rate is $2.04. A final amount cannot be determined until June 2008 and we will keep students and parents apprised of any changes. We will do everything in our power to subsidize the room and board fee in order to keep the total around $2,700 for the standard room and $3300 for the en-suite, but the amount of the subsidy also depends on the exchange rate in June 2008. (If the exchange rate goes down, the room and board fee will also.) The Honors College does not make a profit on this program but turns over the amount students pay for room and board directly to Brasenose College.
June Housing: Students may live in University Housing for the June session. See http://www.housing.ou.edu/Applications_Rates/resrate.html for information and please remember that rates may change.
Students also may wish to obtain travel insurance to supplement their health insurance. Rates vary according to age and coverage. One possible source is Access America, www.accessamerica.com. Students must be covered by health insurance to participate in the program.
Additional costs: Students in the 3-hour credit courses will pay their own transportation for class trips as they are taken, i.e., to London to visit the British Museum or Stonehenge. Please allow for these extra costs.
