Buying Textbooks Has Never Been Easier, Or More Affordable
Dec. 5, 2018
Students are now able to start using the new soonerbooks.com website to purchase their Spring 2019 textbooks and course materials from the new official university bookstore powered by Akademos. OU is partnering with Akademos, an online textbook provider, for a new and more affordable bookstore experience. Since 2012, OU faculty, staff and students have worked together to reduce the annual cost of textbooks by an average of $555 per student. This new partnership with Akademos will focus on saving students even more on textbook costs.
“Moving to an online bookstore is the next step in ensuring students and faculty have the best experience and prices possible,” said OU Provost Kyle Harper.
Faculty have already adopted Spring 2019 textbooks at soonerbooks.com and now students are able to begin purchasing textbooks for the upcoming semester.
Students visiting soonerbooks.com will log in with their OUNetID. A page with all of their textbooks and course materials for their upcoming spring courses will be populated, and students may choose to purchase new books, used books, eBooks or they may choose to rent or purchase on the Marketplace from third parties. The exact number of options presented will vary based on availability as well as faculty preference. The Akademos Marketplace offers competitive pricing from other retailers, with an average savings of more than 50 percent off list price. Students who place Marketplace orders earliest typically see the greatest savings. Free shipping is available for any course materials purchased directly from Akademos (this does not include Marketplace purchases).
Those who purchase their course materials directly from Akademos (not the Marketplace) may return their purchased items through the second week of the spring semester. Students also have the option to sell their books at the end of the semester back to Akademos or become a seller directly to other students through the Marketplace.
Akademos also offers a Price Match Guarantee on all new books. If a student buys a new book from them, then finds it on Amazon or another vendor for less, buyers can submit a claim through the Akademos website and be reimbursed the difference in store credit.
Akademos was founded over 20 years ago as a textbook marketplace by a university professor who saw first-hand how the exorbitant costs and complexities of textbook distribution weakened classroom learning.
They have since grown into a full-service online solution for higher education course materials serving over 120 schools across the country and delivering savings on textbooks and other course materials while providing administrators and faculty a quick and intuitive textbook submission process.
