Phoenix, Arizona

PhD Workshop

Submission deadline October 7 2009

Previous Cognitive Research Ph.D. Workshops were very successful and quite useful to participants. Therefore, we will be offering a Ph.D. student research workshop as an integral part of IS CoRE again this year.
To be considered for this workshop, Ph.D. students should submit a research proposal of 2,500 words, which will be evaluated by the workshop committee for possible inclusion.

The proposal should have three distinct sections of approximately equal length:
(1) Theoretical Foundations;
(2) Methods; and
(3) Results.
If the work is theoretical,  or if the work is in progress and does not yet have results, please complete only parts (1) and (2).

Papers should be double-spaced in 12-point Times Roman font with one-inch margins, and should be submitted in Acrobat pdf, Word, or WordPerfect format. Papers are to be submitted electronically to rotondo@cobilan.msstate.eduwith the subject line "PhD CORE Submission" and with copies sent to djarmstrong@cob.fsu.edu and norman.johnson@mail.uh.edu

The Ph.D. workshop will follow an interactive paper presentation format. Students will sit at round tables with one or two more Ph.D. students doing similar work. We will match students based on similarities in theoretical foundations or methods. Each round table will have a faculty member with experience in the theme presented at the table who will act as a facilitator. All other faculty and students attending the conference will be asked to join one of the tables. Each student will give a short presentation. The facilitator will encourage Q&A and promote discussion and critiques to help students improve their work. This format has proven highly valuable to students attending past workshops.
