October Meeting Agenda

Date: Wednesday, October 1, 2014
Time: 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Location: Art School Building (FJC), Room 203
Event: Introduction to Art presentation by Victor Youritzin
Note: No business meeting

In a high-paced, slide-illustrated lecture--showing paintings by famous artists (e.g. Degas, Manet, de Chirico, Seurat, Matisse, Picasso, et al.), Professor Youritzin will discuss various aspects that constitute successful art and will try to help sharpen your critical abilities. He has delivered versions of this lecture at the Pentagon, at the OKC combined Harvard-MIT clubs, to many university groups, and on television. He is a David Ross Boyd professor who has taught on the OU faculty since 1972 and is a widely sought-after public speaker, having lectured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and at numerous other major institutions, here and abroad, as well as having been a guest lecturer for Cunard Lines. Before joining the OU faculty, he taught at Vanderbilt and Tulane and was a Ford Fellow at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, for which he was, in 1991, the principal co-author of American Watercolors from The Metropolitan Museum of Art (a Book-of-the-Month Club Selection). He is listed in Marquis Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. After analyzing numerous works of art, at the end of his lecture he will pose a question: of two projected drawings, which is the real Van Gogh, and which is the forgery, and why?
