SEVIS transfer-in process for CESL

(Center for English as a Second Language)

This information outlines the SEVIS transfer-in process for F-1 students who are coming to OU CESL (Center for English as a Second Language) from another US school or program.


You MUST be able to begin classes at OU CESL within the first two weeks of the session you wish to attend. You must also be in good immigration status with your current US school or program before you transfer your SEVIS record to OU CESL. You cannot begin the SEVIS transfer-in process until you are fully admitted to OU CESL.


How to transfer your SEVIS record to OU CESL:

  1. Apply for admission to OU CESL
  2. After you are admitted to OU CESL, send a copy of the admission letter to your current school and ask the advisor at your current school to complete the Transfer Recommendation form [link to form here]. Your advisor or you may submit the completed Transfer Recommendation form to the OU ISS (International Student Services) office. You may fax the form to 1-405-325-0197, or scan and email it to our office
  3. Request that your current school release your SEVIS record to the University of Oklahoma – Norman, Oklahoma (DAL214F10664000)
  4. Provide OU ISS with clear copies of the following documents:
    1. completed OU I-20 Request Form
    2. I-20 you used to enter the United States 
    3. I-94 arrival/departure card 
    4. F-1 visa stamp (in your passport) 
    5. passport biographical page with expiration date
    6. documentation of financial support, typically a bank statement in your name or bank statement in your sponsor’s name, with a letter of support stating that s/he is your financial sponsor
    7. All bank statements must show: 
      1.  Account number 
      2.  Account owner name 
      3.  Date within the past ninety (90) days 
      4.  Be in English or be accompanied by a certified English translation 
      5.  Amount of support in US dollars

 

After all the tasks above have been completed, OU ISS can create a new I-20 for you to attend OU CESL. IF YOU ATTEND OU CESL ON ANOTHER SCHOOL’S I-20, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR F-1 IMMIGRATION STATUS.
