Resources
Students are responsible for maintaining their immigration status. Understand your immigration responsibilities and maintain your status. Failure to do so may result in a loss of status. The best resources to assist you in maintaining your status are this website and the University of Oklahoma International Student Services (OU ISS) office, at 729 Elm Avenue, Hester Hall Room 155, Norman, OK 73019.
As the institution that issued your supporting immigration documents, OU has legal obligations that are met by the OU ISS office. F-1 and J-1 students are in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a secure federal database where we create immigration documents and maintain student records. The OU ISS office must regularly report your enrollment status, completion of program, employment recommendations, and failure to maintain status.
- Learn some important immigration-related definitions first - see link to the left called "Definitions."
- Allow ten business days for the OU ISS office to process your requests.
- Carry current financial support documentation when you travel abroad.
- Do not go to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) district office with questions. The local USCIS office cannot answer your walk-in questions.
- If you have questions about your immigration status, ask the OU ISS office. We are here to help and advise you.
