The Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering (MPGE) is ranked amongst the top for petroleum education. Students of MPGE can expect an education unparalleled to others with industry responsive curriculum, state-of-the-art laboratories, renowned faculty, a multicultural environment, opportunity for hands-on learning, and engagement with top industry professionals. MPGE is dedicated to student success, and its long history of excellence is proof of that.
It used to be said, “Wherever there is oil, you will find an OU graduate.” This statement still rings true today. MPGE graduates are sought by industry recruiters and command top salaries for their skill and expertise. A number of graduates from our programs have gone on to become CEO’s of major oil and gas companies, and seven MPGE alumni have served as president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
Enrollment in MPGE has always been strong and, over the past couple of decades, is on the rise. The 2014-15 academic year saw the largest enrollment, yet, with 324 freshman entering the program. MPGE’s student population is a rich source of diversity that adds to each student’s experience. This past year, fifty nations were represented, and thirty-percent of the undergraduate population self-identified as a racial or ethnic minority; and fifteen-percent of MPGE’s enrollment was female. We also had ten student athletes within the program, as well as twenty-four who are military veterans. Our staff and faculty continuously seek learning opportunities that will enable them to better meet the needs of such a diverse population.
