Who can apply to this program?
The program is open to students in engineering and the physical sciences. The purpose of this program is to expose the students to real, in-depth research in the area of sensor technology, metrology, and quality engineering, and to motivate them to go on to graduate school. Applicants should be:
1. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors in Engineering, Science, and Mathematics
2. Four-year college students
3. U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents
How can I Apply?
1. Complete the application form
2. Submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member
3. Provide a resume describing relevant coursework in 1-2 pages
4. Provide an official transcript(s)
5. Respond to the three questions on the application form
What are the program dates?
The 2010 Metrology REU will consume ten weeks between June 2 and August 6, 2010
How is the stipend paid?
Participants will receive $750 in the beginning of the program, $1500 halfway through, and $750 at the end of the program.
What about the meal stipend?
Participants will receive $200 at the beginning and $200 halfway through the program.
Are living arrangements paid?
Yes, participants will not have to pay for boarding. However, if a participant chooses not to live in the provided housing, no extra monetary assistance will be provided.
Do I have an advantage as an OU student?
This program is designed primarily for students from other colleges and universities. Generally, two OU students will be considered for the program.
When will I be notified if I have been chosen as a participant?
Review of applications will commence immediately upon receipt and will continue until the time that all available positions are filled. We would like to have a final list of chosen participants by March 15, 2010. Applicants will be notified in 2-3 weeks after submission of an application and its supporting materials.
Do I have to submit a report at the end of the program?
REU participants must prepare and submit a final research report by the end of the program. Further, we would like for participants to produce publishable research work.
