Experimental Petrophysics (2
days)
Some petrophysical properties are measured directly with
various techniques others are model based interpretations of responses.
We will discuss the various approaches to measuring simple properties such
as porosity, permeability, resistivity, water saturation, seismic velocities,
densities, pore throat distribution, grain sizes, mineralogy, texture,
static moduli, strength, etc. This course starts with the simplest concepts
of mass, length, time and advances to techniques to analyze capillary pressures
and NMR responses. Limitations of various approaches are discussed along
with the assumptions behind each measurement or analysis approach. Standard
error analysis is covered.
Topics to be covered
1) Basics of measuring and error analysis
2) PorositY, density, permeability
3) Mineralogy
4) Capillary pressure, NMR, grain size
5) Velocities and anisotropy
6) Vendor QC
