Freda Jo Tapedo Gipp has just recently completed her twelfth year of government service at Haskell Indian Nations University located in Lawrence, Kansas. Ms. Gipp currently serves as an administrative support specialist for the Office of the President managing the Office of Institutional Research and Sponsored Programs (OIRSP).

Ms. Gipp was born and raised in Oklahoma. She graduated from Riverside Indian School located in Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1979 and earned her bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Freda is an enrolled member of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma. Ms. Gipp is married to Albert Gipp, Jr. and they have six children and two grandchildren and reside in Lawrence, Kansas.

Her undergraduate degree enabled Ms. Gipp to secure jobs as a Child Welfare Worker for the Wichita Tribe of Oklahoma, Juvenile Probation Officer in Brownwood, Texas and Child Support Enforcement Division in Lawrence, Kansas. Subsequently being in Lawrence would lead her to Haskell.

Ms. Gipp’s tenure at Haskell began with a temporary job in the Student Services Division. Subsequently, in 1999, Dr. Bob Martin appointed Ms. Gipp as Executive Assistant to the President. A position she retained through the inauguration of Dr. Karen Gayton Swisher. In 2003, Ms. Gipp was selected to lead Haskell’s Office of Institutional Research and Sponsored Programs (OIRSP). OIRSP was developed to meet the needs of the university’s growth and build capacity to support the external funding opportunities.

In addition, Ms. Gipp has been on various institutional committees such as New Student Orientation, Vision Quest Review, Policy Committee, and served as the co-chair for the NCA Site Visit Committee in 2005. The focus of her remarks will be on the self-study process at Haskell and impact of the review on the programs and services of the university.
