Our
Mission
In support of this
mission, OESA seeks to 1) develop
a community for students and scholars
of Foundations of Education, Educational
Studies and Educational Policy Studies,
2) provide a forum for members for
discussion of interpretive, normative,
and critical perspectives on education,
and 3) conduct activities and events
for members and others with interest
to cultivate scholarship and inquiry
in Foundations of Education.
Who
should join?
Membership in OESA
is open to graduate students and
faculty of the University of Oklahoma
who are
involved
in educational
inquiry and are in good academic
standing, and committed to high quality
scholarship and inquiry in the various
fields of education.
What
are the membership requirements?
In the manner of
academic societies, membership is
conferred to students who self-affiliate,
as indicated through attendance at
meetings, participation in activities
and events, and participation in
planning and delivering activities
and events.
What
are the dues?
$10.00 annual dues,
which covers your registration fee
to the annual OESA statewide conference
when it is hosted by OU (bi-annual).
What
are the benefits of joining OESA?
• You get plugged into an academic peer organization and community of friendship;
• You have access to a forum wherein ideas are exchanged and debated;
• You have access to activities and events which cultivate scholarship
and inquiry in education, via the annual OESA conference, the Brown Bag Series
and
speaker/reading events;
• Your dues cover your registration fee to the annual state-wide OESA conference,
where you can present a paper in a student friendly environment;
• You have access to a group of junior and veteran students who can share
about the formal and informal goings on in the life of a grad student… the written
and the unwritten rules… a group who will applaud your program milestones and
offer a listening ear when needed;
• If you are a doctoral student, membership in OESA can meet residency
requirements
in certain programs;
• Membership looks good on a C.V.
What
does OESA do besides meet once
a month?
We serve as a supportive
academic community and forum for
our membership, sponsor events and
activities that benefit grad students,
co-sponsor and serve biannually as
host to the statewide OESA conference,
serve as a link between our membership
and administrative offices, keep
our membership abreast of state,
regional and national conference
deadlines (call for papers/proposals,
registration, etc.), and sponsor
a list serve wherein helpful information
can be exchanged and disseminated.
Is
it just for graduate students?
No, OESA was created
to support both graduate students
and faculty in the field of education.
