Dr. Abbas Seyedolali (Ph.D., University of Oregon) has been associated with the petroleum industry for over 18 years as a petroleum geologist and sedimentological petrographer employed by several majors such as ExxonMobil, Shell and Chesapeake Energy. Abbas worked on reservoir quality studies, petrology, production and exploration geology from an array of basins worldwide including onshore, offshore and deepwater. This includes both conventional and unconventional reservoirs (siliciclastic and carbonate rocks). At Chesapeake Energy he championed and performed organic petrology (vitrinite and/or bitumen reflectance measurements - including zooclasts - and fluorescence microscopy) of organic-rich mudstones. He also conducted reservoir assessment, sedimentology, core description, petrography and integration of various geological data on U.S. mudstones and tight sandstones. Additionally, he determined diagenesis/paragenetic schema construction, reservoir quality assessment and sequence stratigraphy with parasequence sets and electrofacies generation, and identified/predicted organic-rich areas for exploration and development. Abbas also ran field trips and taught short courses in his areas of expertise.
Currently, at the Oklahoma Geological Survey, he works on the STACK and Hoxbar Plays in Oklahoma as well as conducting organic petrology.
