Welcome! OU Information Technology has designed world-class technology resources that rank OU in the top 10 of PC Magazine's Top 20 Most Wired Colleges. The following steps should help you prepare for your journey as a student, faculty, and staff member at the University of Oklahoma.


1. ACTIVATE YOUR OUNET ACCOUNT

Your OUNet Account is your key to accessing OU's technology resources.

To setup your account, please visit account.ou.edu first using a friends computer, the OUGuest wifi network, or one of OU IT's 800+ lab computers. You will need your OUNet ID or Social Security Number.  Your OUNetID, or 4×4, is the first four letters of your last name (lowercase) plus the last four digits of your 9-digit Sooner ID number.

Following account activation, your OUNet ID acts as your username for accessing all online services, such as e-mail, enrollment and grades, course materials, computer labs, or OU Libraries resources (opens new window).

2. CONFIGURE YOUR @OU.edu E-MAIL

OU IT assigns all students, faculty, and staff an @OU.edu e-mail address and Exchange mailbox upon creation of the your OUNet Account. Your default e-mail address is based on your name and will look something like this: First.MI.Last-1@ou.edu.

Log in to your OUNet Account to:

  • Change your e-mail alias (i.e., sooner@ou.edu)
  • Set up your spam filter (opens new window)
  • Forward your e-mail off campus

Check your e-mail (opens new window) through Outlook Web App or connect to Exchange with a client or mobile device.

3. PLAN FOR EMERGENCIES

OU IT helps prepare you for emergency situations with the Emergency Communication System and invisibleBracelet.

  • OU's emergency communication system contacts you by text, phone, and e-mail in case of emergency.

  • invisibleBracelet helps EMS providers deliver the right medical care or contact your loved ones in case of emergencies with invisibleBracelet.
  • 4. PURCHASE DISCOUNTED TECHNOLOGY

    The OU IT Store offers better-than-education discounts on a full line of hardware, software, iPods, and accessories from names you trust, like Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Adobe, and Microsoft.

    5. CONNECT TO OU's NETWORKS

    OU IT offers high speed Internet access in all University-owned housing and most public areas. Additionally, convenient, secure wifi blankets campus, including almost all academic buildings and most outdoor common areas.

    • Register your computer on OU's networks
    • Connect through wireless
    • Plug in to OU's wired network
    • Access campus resources from home

    6. IMPROVE YOUR SECURITY PRACTICES

    Security is a critical part of your technology experience. The first step in improving your security posture is to INSTALL FREE SYMANTEC ANTI-VIRUS. Log in at the OU IT Store to download the installation file.
