Frequently Asked Questions

My last name has changed and is different from my 4+4. Will this standardization change my name too?
No, OU IT is only removing the 4 digits from your social security number during this standardization. We do not want to choose for you what name you would like to go by. You can change the name portion of your 4+4 any time by calling the Help Desk at (405) 325-HELP.

Will my password change?
No, your password will not change.

What is my new 4+4?
Your new 4+4 is created using the first 4 digits of your last name + the last 4 digits of your OU ID. Your OU ID is listed on your OU ID card (or OneCard). OU IT is also developing a 'forgot your username?' utility for those times when you forget your ID card and cannot remember your 4+4.

Why is OU IT making this change now?
We had planned on making this change in previous years. However, the previous mail system required resource-heavy manual changes for each user with a legacy 4+4. When we started the project in March 2005, users with legacy 4+4s numbered almost 60,000. Now that we’re on Exchange, we can update legacy 4+4s quickly with minimal loss of service.
