Change Your Password
First up: passwords! Your password should be at least 8 characters, but making it even longer is more secure. You should change your password at least once a year, and you can do that right here.
- Enable Multi-Factor (MFA) or Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on web services when possible.
- MFA or 2FA is an additional level of authentication other than just username and password. Multi-Factor or Two-Factor Authentication adds a level of authentication but having a strong, secure password is still needed to have both levels of security.
- Use a password manager/vault to help manage passwords.
Install Antivirus and Malware Scanner
The University provides anti-virus free to Faculty & Staff. You can download Dell Data Protection & Endpoint Security (DDPE) directly from the IT Store website. If you're a student, you can find a list of free anti-virus scanners here.
Keep your machine updated with current security patches. Check regularly for updates to third party applications such as Adobe, Flash, Java, etc. Automatic updates offered by Windows and Macs do not always patch these applications. Where possible, turn on automatic updates to apply operating system security updates.
