OU defeated Oklahoma
State 2-1 with a stunning come-from-behind victory in the Spring 2005
Championship
Match of the OCCSL.
Neither team had many chances in the early going as physical play and frequent fouls disrupted the flow of the match. In the 20th minute that changed as Tim Garcia caught a bad bounce and was called for a handball about 20 yards out on the left side of the box. The free kick was bent perfectly over the wall as goalkeeper Mike Suflita was screened and watched the ball carom off the left post and deflect to the top of the six-yard box where midfielder Nic Wilson slid to clear it out before two Oklahoma State players could reach it.
The rest of the first half saw relatively few chances for either OU or OSU as both teams defended relentlessly and allowed few players to get into dangerous positions. The crowd of around 200 people saw the teams go into half 0-0 without any idea of the excitement ahead in the second half and overtime.
Game Report to be finished soon!
Nic Wilson's Player(s) of the Game:
Jamile Green - His late game heroics saved the Sooners from defeat just 20 seconds short of the final whistle.
Ryan Caldwell - Showed that he remembered how to play on the field after his stunning goalkeeping display in the semi-final. Calmly finished the poor clearance with two minutes left in overtime to win the championship for the Sooners.
Goal of the Game:
Jamile Green's goal in the 90+' won't be forgotten by Oklahoma State anytime soon. Green received the ball deep in the box and spun on two defenders and slotted it home past the goalkeeper with the defenders still draped over his back and pulling on his jersey.
