The University Fire Marshal's Office, a division of the OU Department of Risk Management, is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, testing and servicing the thousands of portable fire extinguishers and the chemical fire suppression systems on university property. The University Fire Marshal also regularly inspects other life safety equipment such as fire standpipe and sprinkler systems, means of egress, and fire alarms; conducts routine fire prevention inspections; and initiates corrective action for fire hazards. The University Fire Marshal conducts fire code related plan-review for building renovation and new construction on the Norman campus. Classes on fire extinguisher use are conducted upon request. Requests for classes, reports of suspected fire hazards or expended or damaged fire equipment, requests for special fire prevention inspections or general questions pertaining to fire and life safety should be directed the to University Fire Marshal at the OU Department of Risk Management, (405)-325-2983, or by e-mail at kleach@ou.edu.
