Abstract: Bootstrapping reasoning has been viewed as a problem for both evidentialist and reliabilist views of justification. I will discuss the issues surrounding bootstrapping and argue that various attempts to handle the problem have been unsuccessful. I then propose a solution to the problem based on the nature of defeasible reasons.
