Courses that Promote Significant
Learning
This webpage contains descriptions of courses that have successfully
promoted significant student learning, so that others can learn
how to do this more effectively in our own teaching.
There are two sets of course descriptions available here:
I. Courses Referred to in the Book
- Chapter 5 of Creating Significant Learning Experiences
contains references to 21 courses described in the general literature
on college teaching. This link contains
descriptions of those courses: the kinds of learning they
promoted, the special and creative course design ideas illustrated,
and the reference for the published description of each course.
- Even though these teachers created their courses prior to the
publication of this book, the courses nonetheless illustrate the
value of the course design ideas advocated in the book.
II. New Course Descriptions
- We also want to collect descriptions of additional courses that
have been intentionally designed to promote significant learning.
- If you have a course that was successful in promoting significant
learning, we urge you to send in a description of it so others
can benefit and learn from what you have done.
- As we receive such course descriptions, we will post them here.
