Joe Craft is president, chief executive officer and director of Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. (“ARLP”) and chairman of Alliance Holding GP, L.P. ("AHGP"). ARLP is a diversified producer and marketer of coal to major United States utilities and industrial users. Under Craft’s leadership, ARLP has achieved twelve consecutive years of record growth and currently is the third largest coal producer in the eastern United States. ARLP operates mining complexes in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, and West Virginia and a coal loading terminal on the Ohio River at Mount Vernon, Illinois. ARLP is also a new mine in southern Indiana and funding development of reserves, constructing surface facilities and making equity investments in a new mining complex in southern Illinois.
A native of Kentucky, Craft is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, the University of Kentucky College of Law, and the Senior Executive Program of the Alfred P. Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2010, Craft was inducted into the University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics Alumni Hall of Fame and the University of Kentucky’s Hall of Distinguished Alumni, the highest recognition bestowed by the university on graduates for their professional accomplishments. Craft was also inducted into the University of Tulsa’s Business Hall of Fame in 2009 and the. Tulsa Hall of Fame in 2007.
Throughout his career, Craft has served in various industry and community leadership positions. He currently serves as a director for the Bank of Oklahoma, a director for the Tulsa Community Foundation, a director for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, and a director for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
