Let's talk about what you can expect from your International Business education at OU.

The goal of the IB program at the Price College of Business is simple:

It is to make you prepared for the global business world of the 21st century. To do so, we haven't thrown away the 20th century book on business education, but we certainly have rewritten much of how they are presented.

A unique feature of the IB program is that it is a Dual-Major program. Students are required to major in International Business, which provides an across business disciplines appreciation of the challenges and strategies for coping in the global business world in which we live today and will continue to live during your lifetime. Additionally, to prepare students for the business world of the 21st Century, the IB major requires students to be proficient in a second language and to have a meaningful international experience.

IB students are required to double major in: Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, or Supply Chain Management. This part of the IB program is to provide skill-depth in a specific of business. Companies want employees to have a skill-set and this part of the IB Program provides it.

To summarize:

An International Business (IB) Major is required to have:

  • a double-major
  • a conversational proficiency in a second language
  • a significant study/work abroad experience

We also recommend that IB Majors consider attaining:

  • a School of International and Area Studies (SIAS) Minor
  • an Honors College Curriculum
  • membership in Phi Beta Delta

This may sound like a lot to do, but it can be accomplished within the normal four-year plan of study. Read on, we explain at this website how this is possible. However first, let's ask some basic questions about the IB Program requirements.

Why do we require you to have a double-major?

Why do we require you to have conversational-level language proficiency?

Why do we require you to have a study abroad experience?

Why do we recommend a SIAS Minor?

Why do we recommend an Honors Curriculum?

Why do we recommend participating in Phi Beta Delta?

For all of these questions, the answer is both simple and the same:

We want to help you to be prepared for the challenges of today's increasingly competitive world of global business, and more immediately, we want to help you to be highly competitive in your job quest when you enter the business world after graduating from the Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma.

Your time in the IB Program will be a learning experience: academically, socially and interpersonally. Your IB Program experiences will help you to grow substantially as a person. In sum, the IB Program is designed to be a means to an end, with our goal being to provide you with the resources that you will need to be prepared for and competitive in the world of international business.
