OU MBA Students Take First Place in Big XII Case Competition

OU Students Place First at Big XII Case Competition

April 4, 2017

Amir Fard Behreini, Amanda Curtis, Clark Fisher and Andrea Garcia competed against eight other teams of MBA students, and won $5,000 for their first-place finish. Kansas State University placed second and West Virginia University placed third. The OU Price College team also took home two individual awards. Amanda Curtis won the Best Presenter award and Amir Fard Behreini won the Best Q&A award.

The team members were assigned a real-world business problem from Raintree Resorts International, which operates as a vacation ownership developer in Mexico, the western United States and western Canada. The students then analyzed the 25-page case with the assignment to give recommendations to expand their customer base, and presented their solution to the judges, which included the CEO and COO of the company. The MBA teams were judged on quality of recommendations and realistic financial projections after two rounds of oral presentations and question-and-answer sessions.

“OU completely swept the competition, and the best part, this was only the fourth case we had worked on together,” said MBA student Amanda Curtis. “I am so immensely proud of Amir Fard, Andrea Garcia and Clark Fisher. For the first time in history, OU had been represented by two international students and a part-time student for the case competition. Most importantly, we were able to bring the massive trophy back to sit in Dean Pullin's office for the next year. I want to thank the University of Oklahoma Price College Of Business for giving me all the opportunities that I have had, and the ability to represent them in Waco. I also want to thank Dr. Ron Anderson who led and guided us the whole time, and lastly, the amazing team that we put together which, literally, could not have done better.”
