Dipankar Ghosh Named Inaugural ConocoPhillips Chair in Energy Accounting

Dipankar Ghosh

Following a gift from ConocoPhillips, Dipankar Ghosh has been named the first ConocoPhillips Chair in Energy Accounting at the Michael F. Price College of Business on the OU Norman campus. Price College alumna and Board of Advisors member Glenda Schwarz (BBA, Accounting, 1988), Vice President and Controller of ConocoPhillips, facilitated the newly dedicated funds in support of the new position.

“ConocoPhillips takes great pride in our historic relationship with the University of Oklahoma, which offers the most comprehensive collection of energy programs in the nation,” said Schwarz. “We celebrate the appointment of the new ConocoPhillips Chair in Energy Accounting, Professor Dipankar Ghosh, and the many great opportunities this chair will have to prepare students for accounting careers in the energy industry.”

Part of the gift from ConocoPhillips, originally made in 2007, has been reallocated to support the endowed faculty position in Price College’s Steed School of Accounting.

“We are extremely grateful to ConocoPhillips and the leadership of Glenda Schwarz for making an investment in Price College and the Steed School of Accounting,” said interim dean Wayne Thomas. “These types of donations allow us the opportunity to recruit and retain top faculty to further enhance our high-performing Masters of Accountancy program, facilitate meaningful opportunities to conduct top-quality research on issues facing the energy industry, and dedicate faculty to preparing students at all levels for accounting careers in the energy industry.”

Ghosh is the David Ross Boyd Professor of Accounting and the founding Executive Director of the Energy Institute at the Price College of Business, where he was instrumental in the design and delivery of the Energy Executive Management Program and the Executive MBA in Energy hybrid program, which launched in January 2014 and was recently named the No. 1 executive energy graduate program by Oil and Gas Investor.

He has received several teaching awards, including the Merrick Foundation Teaching Award and the Regents’ Award for Superior Teaching, both from the University of Oklahoma. Ghosh was among the first group of faculty members recognized as a Presidential Professor, given by OU to “honor, reward, and retain top faculty members who excel in all their professional activities” and “exemplify the ideals of a scholar through their endeavors in teaching, research and creative/scholarly activity, and professional and University service and public outreach.”

Ghosh is the chair of the Doctoral Proposals Committee for the Institute of Management Accountant’s Research Foundation. He also serves as the committee chair of the Glen McLaughlin Prize for Research in Accounting Ethics awarded by the Steed School of Accounting.

“I am deeply honored to be named the inaugural ConocoPhillips Chair in Energy Accounting,” said Ghosh. “This appointment is a generous indication of the continued support and friendship between ConocoPhillips and the Price College of Business, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity.”
