Sloat JD/MBA Scholarship Benefits Dual Degree Students

Dan Sloat understands the rigor and financial commitment of pursing the dual degrees of Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration. In his fourth and final year of study (2018-19), he established the first scholarship fund of its kind in the history of the University of Oklahoma with the intent to encourage more students to pursue such dual degrees.

“I believe in the transformative power of this program, because by combining the natural optimism of business and the inherent pragmatism of law, JD/MBAs are uniquely suited to craft innovations that balance opportunities and risks in a way that will help ensure the enduring global competitiveness of Oklahoma and the nation,” Sloat said.

Captain Sloat first arrived in Oklahoma on orders with the U.S. Air Force and quickly fell in love with both the state and the University of Oklahoma. He earned a Master of Economics degree and private pilot’s license between three military deployments abroad: directing drone operations over Afghanistan, executing counter-narcotics surveillance throughout Latin America and coordinating humanitarian aid within Syria.

After completing his service commitment, Sloat became highly engaged throughout the OU community with roles as Founder and President of the Business Law Society, Founder and Chairman of the Rainbolt Student Ambassadors, Team Leader and Interdisciplinary Analyst for the Ronnie K. Irani Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth, Research Intern for the Center for International Business & Human Rights, President of the Graduate Business Association, Executive Vice President of the Student Bar Association and law school Class President. Currently, he serves as Honors Fellow to the Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts, where he promotes entrepreneurship principles in the inaugural Arts Incubation Lab.

Sloat said he hopes the scholarship fund eventually becomes an endowment that is able to support a growing number of recipients each succeeding year in perpetuity. If you’d like to contribute to the Capt. Dan Sloat JD/MBA Scholarship fund online, please visit the OU Foundation website.
