Winter Session 2024


San José, the capital of Costa Rica, is located in the country’s beautiful central mountain valley. Costa Rica is known for its political and economic stability in Central America. The country’s natural attractions draw tourists from all over the world. A center of international banking and trade, Panama City, is one of the most cosmopolitan capitals in Central America.  Located in the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, Panama City’s rich history can be seen through its many architectural styles, from Spanish colonial buildings, to French and Antillean townhouses, and modern high-rise buildings.  The Price College of Business students will have the opportunity, in addition to their class work, to engage in ecotourism, to explore the Rainforest, to visit a coffee and pineapple plantation, experience the operations of the Panama Canal, and learn more about these incredible countries.

Class Offered:
MGT 3233: Leadership in International SettingsUpon successful completion of this course, students will be able to identify and describe a variety of theories of leadership, will clearly articulate an understanding of the processes, practices, and purposes of leadership, will appreciate that effective leadership is a multi-faceted process, and will gain an understanding of the cross-cultural skills needed by leaders of the future.Taught by Breea Clark

Spend 11 days in Sydney in January during Australia’s summer season! Sydney, which is the capital of the state of New South Wales, is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse areas in Australia. With a current population of 5.3 million people, Forbes has ranked this metropolis as the 8th most influential city in the world. Although heavily populated in the urban area, Sydney offers dozens of national and recreational parks such as Kur-ring-gai Chase National Park and the Royal National Park. This allows for plenty of outdoor activities for students to enjoy! It is also home to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. 

Students will earn 6 OU credit hours, but will only pay for 3 credit hours. One of the courses will be offered by the provider which will be taught by a local faculty member. Company presentations complement the course content. There will be opportunities for students to explore Sydney through program activities.

Classes Offered:

L S 4713: The Law of International Business Transactions - This course examines the ethical and legal environment of international business. Taking this course abroad counts towards the LS Certificate. Taught by Shelly Grunsted, JD, LL.M.

B AD 3700: Global Issues in Management - In-depth understanding of the international business environment in Asia-Pacific by examining the political, economic, social, cultural, and environmental factors. There will be a heavy emphasis on guest speakers and company presentations. Students will have the opportunity to network with students from other US universities. Taught by local Aussie faculty member.

*Students are required to take 6 credit hours for this program.

Summer 2024

Junior

Spend three weeks in Arezzo, Italy.  An ancient yet vibrant town nestled in the hills of Tuscany, Arezzo offers easy access to cultural and economic centers such as Florence, Rome, and Siena. These bustling cities are close enough to visit in a day yet far enough away to preserve Arezzo's Tuscan ambiance. Arezzo and the surrounding area is the birthplace of renowned artists, poets and musicians such as Michelangelo, Petrarch, and Guido Monaco.  Fans of the Academy Award winning film Life is Beautiful might recognize Arezzo's many medieval tower homes and Renaissance churches. The modern region of Arezzo is home to 36,000 companies (1 company for every 10 inhabitants), an entrepreneurial rate that is among the highest in Italy. 

Students enrolled in this Arezzo program can earn up to six credit hours. In addition, students will visit Italian companies, and see impressive examples of Italian art and culture through visits to cities such as Rome and Florence.

 

Classes Offered:

ACCT 2123 Managerial Accounting - Introduction to managerial accounting. Analysis of cost behavior and the use of this knowledge for both short- and long-term decision. An introduction to budgeting and the accumulation of product costs for planning and performance evaluation. Specific coverage includes cost-volume-profit analysis, capital budgeting, allocations, variances from standard costs and the measurement of divisional performance. Taught by Joe Dulin

FIN 2303 Business Finance - An introductory course in financial administration of the firm. Topics include the finance function, concepts of sources and uses of funds, analysis and estimation of need for funds (short- and long-term), short-term sources, working capital management policy, long-term sources, capital structure policy and implementation, capital budgeting and the cost of capital. Taught by John Paul Broussard, Ph.D.

MKT 3513 Social Media Marketing
 - The breadth and strengths of social media are ever-growing, resulting in fundamental shifts in the way marketers communicate and interact with consumers. Particularly, the internet and its related technologies which enable social media to have influence far beyond the traditional consumer communities. This course provides the practical knowledge and insights required to establish objectives and strategies, properly select the social media platforms to engage consumers, and monitor and measure the results of these efforts. Taught by Kim Gaddie, Ph.D.

Segovia

Spend a month during summer in Alcalà de Henares and experience the beauty and culture of this historic college town just a 30 minute drive from Madrid. Transportation is readily available to allow students access to everything Madrid has to offer including concert halls, museums, shopping, and restaurants. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1998, the town has impacted humanity in an intellectual, artistic and political way especially through the historic University of Alcalà de Henares. Founded in 1499, the university gained a reputation for its academic excellence in the centuries to come. Today, the university is located in downtown Alcalà with separate campuses in Alcalà and Guadalajara, with an enrollment of 20,000 students.

Students from Price College will be on campus at our partner university, Instituto Franklin de la University of Alcalà, with other Spanish and international students. All classes are taught in English by Price College faculty, with the additional participation of professors from Instituto Franklin. Students will live in the resident halls at Instituto Franklin and/or with carefully selected host families. Lectures complement other program activities that include business tours, trips to other cities and areas of Spain, visits to museums, and an introduction to Spanish culture and cuisine.

BAD 4013 Business Policy and Strategy (Capstone) - Administrative decision making with emphasis on analyzing business problems, formulating policies and implementing plans for action; comprehensive cases provide the opportunity to study the proper interrelationships among production, finance, marketing and the many other functions involved in managing a business enterprise. Taught by Ana Bolino, Ph.D.

BAD 3513 International Business (BAD 5973 is the Graduate level International Business course offered for BBA/MACC students)
 - The nature and economic role of the multinational corporation including the impact of legal, political, educational, sociological, and cultural variables upon firm performance and managerial activity; case studies illustrate managerial, marketing, financial and accounting activities projected across national boundaries. Taught by Mark Bolino, Ph.D.

Spend two weeks in England! This program provides students the opportunity to visit London and Liverpool. London, considered one of the oldest cities with history dating back to the Roman times, is known for its Houses of Parliament and its picturesque sites of Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower Bridge. Due to its reputation of being a global city for its arts, entertainment, commerce and finance, and much more, London offers a diverse cultural experience for students. Liverpool, a historic port city and metropolitan borough, has the second highest number of art galleries, national museums, and parks in the UK. In 2008, this city won the honor of being named the European Capital of Culture. Liverpool is also the birthplace of the Beatles, one of the most notable and influential contributors to the music scene.

Students will learn how sports business organizations and professionals operate differently (structure, financing, marketing, etc.) in different cultures, through the business of soccer. This experience will be complemented by lectures from faculty and soccer business professionals, site visits, case studies, and cultural activities.

Classes Offered:
MGT 3710: International Sports Business – This intensive four-week course provides students with a focused exploration of market research and consumer behavior in the context of the international sports business industry. The first two weeks are delivered online in a synchronous format, and the following two weeks involve an immersive experience abroad in another country. Taught by Sean Daly.

Vichy

Spend a month this summer in Clermont-Ferrand, France! Known for being one of the oldest cities in central France, Clermont-Ferrand is the capital of the Auvergne region and is Norman’s sister city.  This vibrant city was originally two towns, Clairmont and Montferrand, which were later joined by Louis XIII.  It is listed as a Tectonic hotspot on the UNESCO’s World Heritage list, as it is surrounded by the Chaîne des Puys, a chain of volcanoes.  Located 4 hours from Paris, Clermont-Ferrand is host to the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.  Although second to the Cannes festival, it is the world’s first and leading festival for short films.  Michelin’s headquarters are also based here. 

Students from Price College will be on the University of Clermont Auvergne campus in Clermont-Ferrand with other French and international students. All classes are taught in English by Price College faculty, with the additional participation of professors from University Clermont Auvergne. Lectures complement other program activities that include business tours, trips to other cities and areas of France (such as Paris, Lyon, Avignon), visits to museums, and an introduction to French culture and cuisine. Students will be housed in furnished apartments located near campus.

Classes Offered:

MGT 3013 Principles of Management - An introductory course presenting the basic concepts and practices of management, both private and public. Historical development of management; basic definitions and philosophy; fundamental managerial functions, including planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling; a survey approach to quantification in organizational life; current trends in management; possible future developments in organization and administration. Taught by UCA faculty.

MKT 3013 Principles of Marketing - Focuses on the relationship between the firm and its customers and the other members of the channel of distribution. Introduces students to: the marketing function of an organization; the environmental factors influencing marketing decisions; the discovery of market opportunities; the development of marketing strategy; and the development of marketing programs. Taught by Natasha Poularikas

LS 3323 The Legal Environment of Business - The legal environment of business organizations with ethical considerations and the social and political influences affecting such environments. Taught by Dan Ostas, Ph.D.
