Statement of Purpose and Operation
The Provost’s Advisory Committee on Writing (PAC-WRITE) has been created to initially accomplish three goals:
- Discover and draw together existing efforts across the University of Oklahoma that focus on developing student writing; invite representatives from various departments and programs to describe their activities, offer support and a forum for an ongoing conversation about strengthening our continuing efforts to support student writers.
- Through collaborations, research, and assessment, make writing initiatives on campus more connected, visible and sustainable.
- Determine the need for additional programmatic and curricular initiatives; consider viable ways to influence programs, departments, and individual faculty in order to infuse writing-to-learn and writing across the curriculum activities into degree requirements and course work; design a model that is structurally and philosophically congruent with goals agreed on by the committee and with the OU academic mission; develop meaningful faculty development experiences to support such efforts; provide incentives, supportive oversight, and assessment in collaboration with such efforts.
