Staff Association President, Connie Smith, called the business meeting to
order.

1. Connie shared the information presented
by Nick Hathaway at the Staff Senate meeting regarding the cell phone use
policy. Basically OU is bound by state law, which states that employees cannot
be loaned money (university paying for cell phone usage up front and the
employee reimbursing for the use at a later date) and that state property
cannot be utilized for personal purposes. At this point, it is recommended that
each employee adhere to departmental cell phone policy. Email comments about
the university-wide cell phone policy to Connie, Jackie Farley or Nick.
2. A potential award for recognizing OU
staff for work in the community has been suggested to Staff Senate. Please send
ideas or suggestions related to this idea to Jackie or Barbara in the Staff
Senate Office.

Faculty
Senate, Susan Lauterbach. This month Faculty Senate will not meet until April
14, 2003. Current happenings in Faculty Senate include a Faculty Grant created
for a Faculty Professional Development fund and a faculty tribute on April
10.

Treasurers
Report, Sophia Morren. The Foundation account balance is $360.27 with no
disbursements since July 2002. An OU Federal Credit Union account has been
established for the purpose of collecting funds and paying for the meeting
lunches.

Art
Show Committee Report, Lenore Arlee. Harvey Mitchell will be providing
entertainment at the opening reception. If anyone knows of a source for
pedestals, please let the committee know. The next committee meeting is
Thursday, April 10 and is open to anyone interested in the art show.

Business

Update
on IT Policy Committee, Dan Hough. The Security & Acceptable Use policies
reviewed by staff and faculty are now awaiting presidential signature. The committeeÕs
most recent project has been the development of an Email policy. The committee
examined policies from OSU, OUHSC and others when developing the proposed
policy, which addresses mass emails, spam rules for disabling accounts and
other issues. The policy contains a privacy statement and reminds users of the
Open Records Act.

Kimberly Davis from OU Health Services on the second floor of
Goddard shared information with the group on services offered by Health
Services and tips for healthy living. From the many handouts provided by
Kimberly, here is a basic list of services:

Kimberly talked about the Food Guide Pyramid and why it is still a
useful tool for healthy eating when followed properly. For exercise, Kimberly
recommended the following amounts:

30-45 minutes 3-5 days/week

Body
fat reduction, 45-60 minutes 5-6 days/week.
