OKLAHOMA CITY — Diabetes programs for prevention, education and outreach will benefit from a $30,000 gift being presented by the Order of the Eastern Star to the Harold Hamm Oklahoma Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Almost one in three Oklahomans have diabetes or are at high risk of developing it.  Serving the entire state, the Harold Hamm Oklahoma Diabetes Center is a comprehensive treatment, research and educational facility dedicated to eliminating and controlling the effects of all types of diabetes. The center’s physician researchers are specialists in diabetes care and employ their cutting-edge research to provide the best treatment available.

“This generous gift will help advance diabetes programs for the numerous Oklahomans afflicted by this disease,” said center director Dr. Timothy Lyons, who holds the Chickasaw Chair in Diabetes at the OU Health Sciences Center.

The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world in which both women and men are members.  The Order focuses on high moral and social character-building core values.

“Selecting the Harold Hamm Oklahoma Diabetes Center as this year’s philanthropy underlines Eastern Star’s commitment to the ideals of contributing to the personal welfare of the community by supporting educational and scientific efforts,” said Judy Dixon of the Oklahoma Grand Chapter of Eastern Star.
