NORMAN – Construction of the OU Cancer Institute at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the Collings Hall Addition and Renovation and Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Eugene B. Adkins Gallery Addition projects on the Norman campus will be discussed by the OU Board of Regents during its regular meeting Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 9 and 10, in Claremore and Tulsa.

The meeting will begin at approximately 3:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Stratton Taylor Library at Rogers State University in Claremore with items submitted by Cameron University and Rogers State University. The meeting will continue at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Faculty/Staff Lounge of the OU-Tulsa Schusterman Center with items submitted by OU.

The Regents will consider a recommendation to approve costs for the initial construction of the OU Cancer Institute and related project management services costs. Initial construction work on the facility is under way, with substantial completion expected in June 2010.

Also during their meeting, the Regents will consider awarding a contract for construction of the Collings Hall Addition and Renovation project for the College of Education. Approximately 15,000 square feet of new space will be constructed for a student professional services center, including a curriculum library and placement services area, specialty classrooms for mathematics and science education, general-purpose classrooms and conference rooms. The project also includes some renovation of the existing building to update it to meet current building, accessibility and life-safety code requirements. Additionally, a new entrance designed as a bell tower will be constructed to welcome students, faculty, staff and visitors into the remodeled lobby.

The Regents also will consider a recommendation to negotiate the terms of an agreement for preconstruction management services associated with the Eugene B. Adkins Gallery Addition project, currently under way at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. Plans call for the creation of the new gallery and associated archive storage space on the second floor to display, store and curate Southwest and Native American works of art from the Adkins Collection. As planned, the existing rooftop sculpture garden will be enclosed to create a new third-floor gallery. A major new staircase leading from the lower galleries into this new third-floor area will be constructed.

The next regular meeting of the OU Board of Regents is slated for Oct. 22 in Norman.
