Vice President for Research and Partnerships Awards for Outstanding Research and Creative Activity

For 2020 awards, electronic nominations are due from units to the VPRP's office by November 1, 2019.

The research vision for the University of Oklahoma Norman campus is to utilize its intellectual, technological, and institutional resources to generate and disseminate new knowledge, and to develop, perform, and exhibit works of creative expression for the purpose of understanding and improving all aspects of life and our society.

To celebrate the achievements of faculty and other professional scholars in advancing research and creative activity at the University of Oklahoma, the Norman campus Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships offers two awards annually. These awards complement university-wide awards for faculty distinction in research and creative activity, such as the Regents’ Award for Superior Research and Creative Activity, the George Lynn Cross Research Professorship, and the Presidential Professorships. Each awardee will receive a prize of $4,000 and a framed certificate.

Norman Campus Vice President for Research and Partnerships
Award for Outstanding Research Impact

Up to two awards will be given annually to faculty members on the Norman or Tulsa campuses whose research, scholarship, and/or works of creative activity and expression have made a notable impact on field(s) of inquiry, individuals, organizations, communities, underrepresented or underserved populations, culture, education, or industry.

Norman Campus Vice President for Research and Partnerships
Award for Outstanding Research Engagement

Up to two awards will be given annually to faculty members on the Norman or Tulsa campuses in recognition of their scholarly research and/or creative activity engagement with collaborators or participants from other disciplines, institutions, OU campuses, private industry, or the general public. Important to this award is compelling evidence that the engagement was critical to the success of the work.

Eligibility

The following researchers are eligible for nomination: tenured or tenure-track faculty of all ranks, research faculty, ranked renewable term faculty, research personnel funded from external grants and contracts administered by OU, and postdoctoral researchers/associates/fellows who hold paid OU appointments. Instructors, lecturers, adjunct faculty, visiting faculty, scholars, and students are not eligible. These criteria apply to individuals on the Norman campus and those associated with Norman campus programs at OU-Tulsa.

Nomination & Selection Procedures

To submit a nomination, one electronic copy of the following materials should be provided to the Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships via the online submission form.

  1. A letter of nomination that makes a compelling case for how the nominee has achieved the qualifications for the relevant award.
  2. Two letters of support that provide strong evidence of the nominee’s qualifications for the award. External letters, including those outside of academia as appropriate, are strongly encouraged.
  3. A complete curriculum vitae of the nominee.
  4. The nominator must supply a short statement (approximately 50 words) to be used as an award citation if the nominee is selected.

Nominations will be evaluated by an ad hoc faculty committee on the extent to which the candidate has achieved success as specified in the award description, and as documented by compelling evidence including testimonials in letters of support, particularly those from individuals external to the university.

Nominations should focus on research, scholarship, and/or creative activity. Nominations that overemphasize instruction/instructional impact will be less competitive for these awards. However, evidence of remarkable examples of the integration of research and instruction will make nominations more competitive.
