Newsgroups and Mailing Lists

Last changed - 12th January 1996

If you know of other microscopy newsgroups or mailing lists, please let me know so that I can add them to this page. Send an e-mail to chris@stowey.demon.co.uk with the details.

3-D Imaging

Mailing List

Not entirely aimed at microscopists of course, but this mailing list is certainly of interest to anyone working with 3-D visualisation by means of computer graphics.

To subscribe, send a mail to listserv@bobcat.etsu.edu containing the single word 'subscribe'.

Post messages to list members by e-mailing sd3d@bobcat.etsu.edu, do not send 'subscribe' or 'unsubscribe' requests to this address.

Confocal Microscopy

This is a good place to pick up information on equipment, methods and techniques. If you have a confocal question or problem to solve post a note here and the chances are good that within a couple of days you'll have several helpful replies.

Mailing List
To join, send an e-mail to listserv@ubvm.cc.buffalo.edu containing the single line "subscribe confocal firstname lastname" for example, "subscribe confocal John Smith".

You can send a message to all list members by e-mailing confocal@ubvm.cc.buffalo.edu, do not send 'subscribe' or 'unsubscribe' requests to this address.

There's also a handy archive of postings which you can use from any Web client.

News Group
Point your News Reader client to bit.listserv.confocal to pick up all the recent postings. The archive mentioned above also applies to postings to this list.

(Note that the mailing list and news group are connected by a gateway, items posted to either appear on both.

There's a useful Gopher archive of past mails at gopher.soils.umn.edu.

News Group
If you need a general discussion on image processing, try sci.image.processing, it's not confined to microscopy of course, but it may well provide the help and advice you need.

sci.techniques.microscopy is the main Usenet News place to go for discussions on all aspects of microscopy.

Optics

News Group
sci.optics has regular discussions on a wide range of optical matters. Much of the information is not directly relevant to microscopy, but the newsgroup's worth following if, for example, you have interests in aspects of lens design.

Scanning Probe Microscopy
