Research Institute for STEM
Education brings together a multi-disciplinary research team
whose mission is to study the complex array of factors contributing to
diverse studentsí academic experiences in science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics majors (STEM) and make recommendations to academic policy
makers based on those factors.
of Research Findings to date (2010)
principals have translated our research findings into 30 recommendations
focused as actions that institutions and institutional representatives could
pursue to better support the needs of all students, and diverse students in
particular. Our recommendations align into 9 domains including 1)
communication, 2) college culture, 3) department culture, 4) classroom
culture, 5) faculty-student interactions, 6) student-peer interactions, 7)
academic pathway, 8) individual action, and 9) research methodology. This
