REPORTING FIRES - Any fire actually in progress, as well as smoke and unexplained strange odors, should be promptly reported to the UNIVERSITY EMERGENCY NUMBER (911). State the exact location and suspected cause. All fire incidents, regardless of how inconsequential, should be reported to the University Fire Marshal (325-2983) even if emergency assistance is not required.
FIRE EQUIPMENT AND FIRE HAZARD INSPECTION - The University Fire Marshal approves and inspects installation of fire-related equipment in University facilities and insures that this equipment is maintained, tested, and/or serviced as needed. He also conducts routine fire prevention inspections and initiates corrective action for fire hazards. Suspected fire hazards, expended or damaged fire equipment, requests for special fire prevention inspections, and general questions pertaining to fire safety should be referred to the University Fire Marshal (325-2983).
FIRE EQUIPMENT CLASSES - The University Fire Marshal has developed a short class to train University employees in the safe and proper use of the portable fire extinguishers and other fire equipment provided in University buildings. Classes may be scheduled and/or additional information requested from the University Fire Marshal (325-2983).
DECORATIONS AND FLOATS - The University Fire Marshal has developed an informational brochure dealing with decorations and another brochure about floats. A memorandum concerning holiday decorations is usually circulated shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday. Copies of these brochures can be accessed below. Additional information should be requested from the University Fire Marshal (325-2983).
